Information received from Peter Boyce:
Thai place names are notoriously difficult to transliterate into English since, unlike Chinese, there is no fixed transliteration system such that even the Thai's have problems; indeed it is not at all unusual to see the same place spelled differently on two roadsigns one hundred metres distant! The OTHER problem with Thai places names is that they distressingly regularly change name. One of the most user-friendly and reliable ways of finding places in Thai is Encarta Atlas on-line, but in order to use it effeciently for Thailand you will need to know that the Thai's call small villages "Ban ....." . So, for example, if you have "Wangka" on the label, you may need to search for "Ban Wangka".
